Jos de Mey for Van Den Berghe-Pauvers – Office cupboard

Beautiful office cupboard made of oak, glass, copper and formica, manufactured by Van Den Berghe-Pauvers (Ghent, 1957) after a design by artist and furniture designer Jos de Mey. Two glass sliding doors at the top with a writing surface underneath, which folds open and transforms the cupboard into a desk with small drawers and shelves. Colour of formica top is apple blue / sea green. At the bottom another cabinet divided into two by a painted grey shelf or rack. The doors can be locked with the original key. Condition: a small burn mark at the top of the cupboard. Some traces of ink on the inside and a small restoration around the lock (please see photos). Other than that the cupboard is in good, vintage condition and original. Jos De Mey (1928–) attended the Municipal Higher Institute of Architecture in Ghent, with none other than Gaston Eysselinck as teacher. In the 1950s, De Mey himself became known as one of the best Belgian furniture designers, and rightly so. He worked as a designer for Van Den Berghe-Pauvers in Ghent, as well as at Luxus in Kortrijk. In 1968 he starts a successful career as a painter. Depth: 43 cm Height: 146 cm Width: 110 cm Pick-up only.
