German helmet from World War II, model Feuerschutz Polizei, year 1942. The peculiarity of this helmet is represented by the ventilation holes made in relief. Virtually all the helmets have smooth holes; they are not made in this way. This helmet is very rare and sought-after by collectors of militaria. This is a steel helmet with a typical design and was introduced during World War I in 1916. With its unmistakable “coal bucket” look, it became a symbol immediately recognisable in military iconography and a common element of propaganda for both sides, like the Pickelhaube was previously. The name, with the symbolic power gained during the war, was also used by Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten, a paramilitary organisation of nationalist inspiration born at the end of 1918.
