Those who mentions ‘Tiel’, means Flipje or the Betuwe. No, there is something else that Tiel was famous for. With the emphasis on ‘was’. Tiel was world famous for its tin. The tin products that were made there, were shipped all over the world. Tiel had four tin supports. Those were the four tin companies: Daalderop, Metawa, Kurz and the Rio. The tea set offered here is made by the latter. Rio was the name of a tin foundry in Tiel, later reestablished in Kapel-Avezaath. The tin foundry went bankrupt in 2010. On the bottom of the parts is the text: ‘ABK 1918 Rio Tiel, A II’. The set has age-related stains and it has been polished a little too much over the years here and there. Without cracks though.
