Baccarat - Karaffelmodell Lagny - Krystall

BACCARAT, "Lagny" model. Important Rhine wine carafe covered with a streamlined shape in translucent mouth blown crystal, and overlaid with a thin layer of crystal tinted in the mass in pink. The body is richly decorated with a succession of four lozenge-shaped rosettes in which various stylised patterns and ornaments such as stars, spacers, bevels, etc., are lodged, crisscross and tangle. The centre of each set is dominated by a blue diamond point that evokes jeweller's craft. The neck, narrow and with a hot hemmed lip, has a decoration that alternates between wide, light, flat ribs and thin blue ribbons. The reverse of the rosette pedestal. The carafe is covered with its original pine-cone shaped stopper in translucent moulded, cut crystal and decorated with cut sides. This "Lagny" model is probably one of the most gorgeous, richest and most elaborate designs in the Baccarat catalogue that existed in the first half of the 20th century. This model cannot be compared to Harcourt, of which it is the almost exact opposite, but it can be compared to models such as "Tsar", "Mandolin". Although unsigned as a result of its age, the “Lagny” model was created in 1912 and was produced until 1993. These tapered carafes, for Rhine wine and spirit, were produced during the first half of the 20th century (moreover, we can notice that the Art Nouveau movement influenced the shape, dynamics, and slenderness of carafes) and, as we know, the Baccarat factory only signed its blown pieces from 1936 onward (before that, a label replaced this indelible signature); label which was soon to be used from the first washings). The carafe is represented in the Baccarat factory's catalogue of Tableware for the year 1916.
