Two bronze plaques from 1916 with bas-relief by King Albert and Queen Elizabeth of Belgium.
Both signed by Charles Samuel.
Charles Samuel (Brussels, 1862 - Cannes, 1938) was an important designer of statues and medals. At the age of 15 he enrolled with Philippe Wolfers, the renowned art nouveau sculptor. Samuel also enrolled with medalist Charles Wiener. He designed a lot of busts and bas-reliefs.
The bronze plaques offered were sold during the First World War to raise money for orphans. Hence the French-language inscription on the back: 'Vendu au bénéfice du Foyer des Orphélins'.
Each plaque measures 15 x 12.5 x 0.3 cm., with a total weight of 696 gr.

Will be sent with track & trace code from Belgium.
