Ronald Hirlé, Joe F. Bodenstein - Arno Breker - 2010

France honours Arno Breker with a new book of pictures. Editons Hirle in the tradition of the Verlag Flammarion (Publisher/ Paris) „Der Verwundete" portrait by Arno Breker. Front page of the book from Editions Hirlé in France. An art historical document about the artist of the century. Paris/Strasbourg (mea) The renowned publisher Hirlé in France has published a magnificent illustrated book about the sculptor Arno Breker (1900-1991). The illustrated book was published as catalogue for the exhibition of works from the collection "Museum Arno Breker". The unusual black-and-white and colour photographs were taken by French photographers of, among other things, the exhibits, which are open to the public in the museum's temporary exhibitions as well as to the general public. In addition there are contemporary photographs from the "Classical Period", which also belong to the museum collection. With this catalogue, Editions Hirlé (Strasbourg) makes a valuable contribution to the scholarly study of the artistic work. At the same time the publishing house continues the tradition of the house Flammarion, which published the illustrated book "Arno Breker" in the 1940s. It was the catalogue for the artist's exhibition at the Orangery in Paris. The expert author at the time was the sculptor Charles Despiau. He was in the first league of sculptors in France with Auguste Rodin, Aristide Maillol. After Despiau, Arno Breker was the fourth artist of the classical tradition in Europe. In his foreword „Die Schönheit und das Göttliche in der Kunst", the art historian B. John Zavrel and Arno Breker at the same time paid tribute to all artists of the world who orientate their work towards creation. Consul Zavrel aptly quotes Pope John Paul II and his message to the artists of the world proclaimed in Rome in 1999. Excellent photos and design. The excellent photographs in this German-French exhibition catalogue on the work of Arno Breker deserve special mention. Ronald Hirlé has personally taken all photos of the publicly exhibited works. For this he used a "Leica Digilux". In addition, a selection of the now historical photographs by Charlotte Rohrbach, which are exhibited in the Museum Europäische Kunst (Nörvenich Castle, Federal Republic of Germany), was added. The international book designer and publicist Sandrine Woelffel (Paris) provided editorial support. She designed the publication in a modern, balanced French style. Sandrine Woelffel also did the final editing of the translations. Thus, in the opinion of art historians, it also delivered "a visual masterpiece".
