Divi Divi tree coffee table from Aruba. Approximately 55 years old and shipped to the Netherlands in 1965. The lacquer is still in good condition despite its age. This type of wood is now protected so no furniture is made of this type of wood anymore, which makes this piece (and its size) quite rare. The dividive (Caealpinia coriaria) from the Papilionaceae (butterfly family) is a tree that is very common in the Caribbean. The tree is also called the Watapana on Aruba. Well-known are the speciment that are formed by the trade winds. A tree that grows in one direction like that is sometimes called a fanning tree. These are common on Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.
