Coins were widely distributed In the Roman Empire. This made them an ideal propaganda tool for Roman Emperors to present themselves and the message they wanted to communicate. They are an important symbol of power and are full of symbolism.
Silver pendant enclosing an authentic ancient coin. The sterling silver frame (marked 925) is custom-made to the coin but if desired the frame can be removed.
Coin: Æ Antoninianus, Emperor Probus, Siscia mint 278 AD.
Obverse: IMP M AVR PROBVS PF AVG, radiate, cuirassed bust right.
Reverse: RESTITVT ORBIS, woman standing right, presenting wreath to Emperor, standing left, holding globe and sceptre. Officina P in lower centre.
Mintmark: XXI
Diameter: ± 24,1 mm
RIC V-2 Siscia 731 var (obverse legend, officina letter)
Condition: very fine to extremely fine, set in new silver pendant. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.

HISTORY:
Probus: Roman Emperor from 276-282 AD. Under his reign the Roman armies successfully defeated the Germanic invaders in Gaul and put down a rebellion in Britain.
He encouraged the planting of vineyards in Gaul, Spain, and Britain and was evidently killed by troops who resented his discipline and being set to agricultural work.
RESTITVT ORBIS: Latin for 'Restorer of the World'.
