Skull fossil - Cave bear - Ursus spelaeus - 44cm

The preservation of the skull is excellent. The skull is well mineralized, the bone surface is glossy with a solid appearance, not spongy. The restoration work involved: - The left canine broke during the restoration work and thus it has been pasted with a suitable resin. The chipping fractures on the edge have been joint up to the enamel. - The condyles' profiles have been finished of few mm. The skull has not undergone a conservative treatment, not lacquers, oils, paraloid, etc. It is not easy to get spelaeo skulls so little restored. One particular is very interesting: the right canine broke when the animal was alive. The glossy chewing surfaces proves it. Dimensions: 44 cm in length. This fossil comes from a French collection. A metal display makes the exhibit of this fossil more flashy. The mandibles are attached to the skull by a rubber band with no metal brackets, bolts or other devices. Period: Pleistocene.
