Murano Afro Celotto - Vase - Glass

The master Afro Celotto was born in Venice, on the island of Burano, on 24 August 1963. Much calmer and less crowded compared to the other Ventian islands, Burano has houses painted in bright colours by fishermen, to make their own houses stand out from the sea. In his childhood, Afro was surrounded by colours and developed a unique sensibility alongside his innate artistic sense. He began working with glass when he was just 14, as an apprentice of the legendary Lino Tagliapietra. In those first years, Afro produced some of the most beautiful artistic glass products in the world, becoming well-known by collectors for his technical ability and his artistic expression. After many years at Effetre International, Afro had refined the ‘Murrina’ technique having specialised in the two most ancient techniques: filigree and Murrine. Four years later, Afro returned to Effetre International, after being requested to replace Lino Tagliapietra who had moved to the United States in order to open his own studio. In 2000, Afro opened his studio where he started to create brand new works of art while refining his own style. Around 2004, his works of art, the result of a combination of classical and modern techniques of coloured shapes, became famous and sought-after by collectors and galleries the world over. He has also collaborated with the great Pino Signoretto, the famous master of sculptures in ‘heavy glass’, and a member of the Team Dale Chihuly. In 2009, in search of new forms and colours, he raised his production to a higher level. Signed by hand at the bottom, certification with his signature and a photo of Afro with the vase in his hands.
