Intec Gaper number 2. Please see and read the booklet. Number 2 issued in 1951 Comes from the collection of 41 gapers, released and made by the company Intec, in Veenendaal. Only chemists and pharmacists with sufficient turnover received these unique, hand-painted gapers. They are all made of pulverised natural stone, except for no. 41 which was the last one and is made of resin. The moulds were eventually destroyed in front of guests at the company’s closing-down party. The gapers served as signboards of an apothecary to attract customers to his shop. Attached on the façade from the 17th century. The gaper is not yawning, but his mouth is open in order to take his medication. Gapers are real folk-art products and are only seen in the Netherlands and in Flanders.
