HANS JENSEN, Denmark Design - ‘Calla Lily’ Design - Lysestake - Sølvbelagt

Danish designer Hans Jensen made this elegant candlestick holder in the 1950s, in the shape of the sculptural ‘Calla Lily’, and the maker’s ‘Jensen fish’ mark. The objective is in dimensions of height of approximately 22cm and width of 14cm. It is in beautifully preserved good condition with signs of minor scratches. The interesting part of this object is that it comes with another engraved letter ‘Patricia 17-04-57’, which indicates that it was a gift for Patricia in 1957, which is another evidence to show its long history. This vintage 1950s Danish modern Hans Jensen silver plated sculptural candleholder features four candle cups, in a stylized calla lily model and on a curvilinear base. The designer Hans Hansen (1884-1940) opened a goldsmith shop and smithy in Kolding, Denmark around 1906. Kolding was already well known for its silver and in particular for the well-known Goldsmith Holger Kyster and the silverware he produced designed by famous silversmiths Th. Bindesboll, Joakim Skovgaard and Svend Hammerhoj. By the 1920s Hansen was producing his line based on his and H.F. Gross' designs. Initially, the company produced flatware. Once that was successful they started with jewelry. The first pieces were designed by Hansen himself around 1931 but production of jewelry began in 1932 with a collection designed by Hansen's son Karl Gustav Hansen. Hans Jensen is one of the important mid-century designers, being a member of the group that created the concept of Danish Modern. This movement was known for its simple, sleek, and utilitarian design. Please take a good look at the photos, they are part of the description. They provide a clear picture of the quality and condition of the product and they fill in any gaps in the text or correct any errors and are decisive for the description of the product.
