Two fragments of an orphrey in silk brocade with silver and gold thread. An orphrey is an ornamental stripe or border especially on an ecclesiastical vestment such as a Cappa Magna or chasuble. Brocade is woven with a raised pattern, typically with gold and silver thread. These 2 fragments are framed in gold banding of the original Cappa Magna where they belonged to. One fragment measures 99 x 18,5 cm the second one 50 x 18,5 cm. They are dating back to the beginning of the 19th century and must have belonged to a wealthy parish that could afford such extremely expensive fabrics. The pattern depicts a rose on a stylized stem with 2 purple roses hanging down. They are placed on a gold background with silver acchantus leaves. Possibly woven in Lyon.
