Cyclobatis Major, Cartilaginous sunfish, order: Rajiformes, Suborder: Rajoidei Family: Cyclobatidae, Genius: Cyclobatis Egerton, 1844. Plate size: 109 mm x 136 mm x 13 mm. Species size: 130 mm (121 mm-without some rays to be very clearly visible) X 94 mm Origin: Hakel deposit - district of Jbeil (Byblos), Lebanon. From old private Greek collection. Geological Period: CRETACEOUS-Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian (66.0–100.5 million years) Important characteristics that differentiate this item from other similar ones (hence higher value): - ray accounts for more than 30-35 % (!) of the total specimen, very long ray, very special - radial arrangement of the rays of the pectoral fins, - ray is well positioned on the light-colored rock slab - large “sun wheel" - fine fin rays - pectoral fins seem to be symmetric - pelvic girdle is well visible - pelvic fins are well preserved and long - strong supporting body - Very High quality, you can feel the fins by touch, in both sides As many fossils break during excavation, also this one is broken in half, professionally glued, notice the binding in the black light photos. The glue binding is hard to notice in natural light or indoors even in close distance. Condition: Very good conservation, reassembled, ie: professionally scraped and glued Plate has been reinforced on the back. Please study the pictures. Net Weight: 363 gr.
