A Russian 19th century travel icon executed in bronze and blue enamel. The iconography depicts Christ Pantokrator enthroned at the last Judgement flanked by the Holy Virgin and St John the Baptist and the Archangels Gabriel and Michael and surrounded by Apostles and Holy monks. At the feet of Christ are kneeling the monks Zosima and Swataj, founders of the Solowetski monastry in the White Sea. Hence this iconography is also called the Deesis ( Intersession) of the Solowetski monastry. These type of travel icons where cast by the Old Believers a Schism of 1666 in the Russian Orthodox Church. The Old Believers always used iconographies dating from before the schism. So there icons even if they are 19th century are executed in the 16th or early 17th century style. This heavily used and rubbed icon dates from the first half of the 19th century. The top of the icon is embellished by a row of 6 cherubs with 6 wings . The arch of the icon shows God the Father.
