Smykkeskrin - Lakk

Jewellery box (1) - nacre - Lacquer - Chinese dance - China - Second half 20th century Chinese jewellery box from the second half of the 20th century, wood/papier-mâché, set with natural mother of pearl. The box is black, so as to better highlight the veins of the mother of pearl, with light lines painted in gold. Both the hinges and the clasp are in brass. The interior is bordeaux velvet, with a fake bottom, beneath a ring and earrings case, and two slots for watches, necklaces, etc... on the upper part of the internal box is the mirror, inlaid in the velvet. The box stays open thanks to two red ribbons. This jewellery box pictures a typical Chinese festivity on the top, with Shen Yun items. On the upper right, a gentleman dances, and on the left a lady wearing the typical festive hairdo and tunic with her child, and on the lower part a boy with the typical war drum called "Gu". "The Chinese drum is an early appearance on the scene of historic Chinese musical instruments: it originated 3,000 years ago. At the time, the Chinese drum wasn't only used during sacrificial rites and dances, but also to intimidate enemies in battle, and to drive away beasts, other than to measure time and provide warning." The outer part of the box shows a floral decoration, inlaid with mother of pearl. The box itself is in good condition, with a few cracks in the corners (see photos for details) These marks, of course, serve as proof of the item's age, and the authenticity in the use of the wood/papier-mâché that characterises this antique box. Unique item. Will be sent by registered mail.
