Jacques Raymond Lucotte - Le Vignole Moderne - 1772-1784

RARE AND COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED EDITION OF THE "RULE OF THE FIVE ORDERS OF ARCHITECTURE" BY JACOPO BAROZZI DA VIGNOLA (1507-1573). THREE (3) books in 1 volume and with 108 full-page illustrations. The work was published in 3 parts/books between 1772 and 1784, each part contains 36 illustrations. There are only incomplete editions on the market, even the French National Library BNF/Gallica only has the second andthird parts. Offered here is the rare complete work in THREE parts/books in 1 volume, each with a separate title and date and each illustration is numbered and full page. The beautiful illustrations are all signed by Jacques-Raymond Lucotte (1733-1804), was an 18th-century French architect, encyclopedist and engineer. He contributed to the creation of the illustrations and text for the volumes IX to XVII of the Encyclopedia of Diderot and D'Alembert. Hardcover in excellent condition, solid, intact and with minor signs of wear. RARE COMPLETE EDITION WITH 3 PARTS/BOOKS IN ONE VOLUME. The treatise on Vignola's orders was very successful, and is characterized by the clarity of exposition, it aims to rationalize the architectural language through the definition of a definitive proportional rule deduced from Vignola's synthesis work carried out on the entire corpus of theoretical studies starting from the 1400s and the knowledge accumulated on ancient monuments. The work required a real correction of both the Vitruvian theory and the solutions adopted in the ancient monuments still observable. This volume "Le Vignole Moderne" (Modern Vignola) gives a precise idea of geometry, the definitions of the geometric figures necessary for the study of architecture, the proportions and rules according to Vignola, the origin of architecture, the formation and demonstration of the various orders, the accessories and ornaments, the notions necessary to develop an architecture with classic cannons, and in the third part/book the practical application of the concepts are exposed with 36 illustrations, 17 of which are double-page (H 255 x W 420mm). Title: Le Vignole Moderne, ou traité élémentaire d'architecture où sont expliqués les principes des cinq ordres de J.B. de Vignole (Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola)...I - II - III parts/books". Published in Paris by Mondhard et Jean, 1772-1784 (3 separate title pages each dated). Text in French. References: Reed Benhamou, « The Sincerest Form of flattery: the professional life of J. R.
