Painter and sculptor of formation, he is the student of T. Blickx and W. Rosiers at the academy of the fine arts of Malines, before attending the workshops of C. Montald and V. Rousseau at the royal academy of the Fine arts of Brussels. From a stay in 1931-1932 in India, Burma and Siam, he brought back landscapes entitled "Paradis perdus". A visionary artist, he mixes abstraction and surrealism in planetary and silent landscapes, born of imagination.
BIOGRAPHY:
Painter sculptor. Training at the Academy of Mechelen at T. Blickx and W. Rosier, at the Academy of Brussels at C. Montald and V. Rousseau. Stays in India, Burma and Siam in 1931-1932. He painted the series of landscapes "Verloren Paradijs". Creates his own inhabited universe of fantastic figures and objects projected into a dream world. Intertwines abstraction and surrealism in vast, peaceful landscapes. Sign "Gerardlaenen". Work acquired by the State in 1962.
