The Order of Sons of St. George was a secret fraternal society founded in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1871. The order was made up of English males and their descendants. Members were required to be first, second, or third-generation Englishmen. They were also expected to believe in a supreme being, have a high regard for the Bible, and be loyal to America. The society’s rituals were based on the story and martyrdom of St. George. In 1936, the society converted to a fraternal benefit society, and the name was changed to St. George Fraternal Insurance Society.
