Roland Green - 16 School Posters of Birds - 1950

Roland Green-16 School Bird Posters Roland J. Green (9 January 1890[1] – 18 December 1972) was an English bird artist, who produced numerous bird studies in watercolours and oils. Green remained a bachelor throughout his life, making his home in a disused drainage mill at Hickling in Norfolk. He set many of his bird paintings in the Broads, capturing some of the wild beauty of this region in his distinctive style. Roland Green was born in Rainham, Kent, the son of a taxidermist, who trained him in the skinning, stuffing and setting up birds, thereby instilling an extensive knowledge of anatomy and plumage. Green also gave lectures on bird watching and the drawing of birds, with an emphasis on birds in flight. He spent a great deal of time in the reedbeds, creating the mistaken impression of being unsociable, but his talks to pupils at various schools dispelled that notion. Among the many paintings he produced are a series of 16 School Bird Posters, hereby offered. The posters are produced around 1950 and are in good condition, clean and bright. Most have staple-holes on the left side, and some small pin-holes on the top-end, of course not affecting the actual picture. 1. Hard-billed Birds (House-, Tree- and Hedge Sparrow, Chaffinch, Yellow Hammer, Linnet) 2. Soft-billed Birds (Starling, Song- and Missel Thrush, Blackbird, Robin) 3. Birds that like Fruit (White Throat, Redwing, Bullfinch, Ring Ousel, Fieldfare, Hawfinch) 4. Seed and Grain Eaters (Gold-and Green Finch, Lesser Red-Poll, Wood Pigeon, Nuthatch) 5. Flesh Eating Birds (Kestrel, Little- Barn- and Brown Owl, Sparrow Hawk) 6. Birds of the Woodlands (Redstart, Green- and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Nightingale, Tree Creeper, Nightjar) 7. Large Omnivorous Birds (Jay, Rook, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Magpie) 8. Birds of the Waterside-1 (Dipper, Moorhen, Coot, Heron, Great Crested Grebe) 9.
