Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Jazuli - Dala'il al-Khayrat - India - 1778

A wonderful illustrated bi-folio from Indian Prayer Book the Dala'il al-Khayrat, 1778, with fabulous and elaborate marginal arabesque decorations enclosing two pages of prayer in black naskh script, beginning with: 'In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful, may God's blessings and praise be upon our Master Muhammad, his family and his companions. Praise be to God who guided us with faith'. These remarkable leafs were saved from a badly damaged copy of the Dala'il al-Khayrat, one of the most popular devotional prayer books of Islam, composed by Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Jazuli. The outer framing and other decorative aspects are a mirror image of one another. The prayer script of both has 7 lines of scripture with each line pillowed in gold and the occasional red diametrical (devotional advisory). Each of the pages of script has a header in white thuluth within a golf cartouche. Although the margina are a little frayed, this is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful adornment to any collection. Both folios are sized as shown in the detailed description above. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
