Vase - Steintøy

This tulip vase is an iconic piece of French glazed sotnewares from the 1920s. It was produced by Poterie des Ligers (Puisaye, France). It was designed by Alfred Lebret, probably when he joined the factory in 1926. The vase features a premium cobalt blue glaze with brown to purple drips. The general shape of the body and main neck is typical of 1920s design. The originality of the vase lies in the three additional fish-shaped necks, which recall the influence of Art Nouveau. Pretty large for a tulip vase (max diameter 17cm, height 20 cm). Excellent condition (see photos) At the bottom, the model number (5) is incised as well as the signature of Jean-Marie Maure, the factory's owner. Note that the same model is also found with A. Lebret signature. Lebret was signing almost all the pieces, Maure was signing when he was visiting the factory or for selected pieces. Maure sold the factory in 1935, the production of this vase can't be later. All the information provided here are from the book : Marcel Poulet (2008), "La grande aventure des grès flammés, 1900-1950, en Puisaye et ailleurs".
