A superlative and richly hand-coloured set of text + plate volumes of this bizarre medical journal, issued here in 48 'livraisons' and at the end of the text volume, a very helpful index of subjects as well as of broad topics. The text volume is joined by a lovely, and slightly larger, volume of plates. This is complete in 48 plates, with protective tissues. The volumes are bound in contemporary 'Romantic' burgundy red calf and marbled boards. Some of the pages of the text are toned, due to the paper quality, but overall this is a remarkable set, especially as it is one of the rarer collections with coloured plates. In small folio size. Coverage is of anatomy, surgery, pathology, childbirth, therapies, medical natural history and toxicology. Truly a remarkable piece of work.
