Birds of the World-Maureen Lambourne For this book Maureen Lambourne, Gould's great-great-granddaughter and herself the author of many books on birds, has chosen more than 400 colour illustrations from Gould's ten most important works, each of which is given a chapter of its own. An overall introduction offers biographies of Gould and the team of workers he assembled, while every picture is accompanied by a caption based on quotations from the original text and recent scientific information about the subject's habitat, behaviour and range. Edward Lear’s Birds-Susan Hyman Edward Lear was known both for his limericks and nonsense rhymes in English literature as well as for his bird paintings of a quality and style comparable the great masters of his era. This book gives many examples of both sides of Mr. Lear’s extraordinary talent. There are numerous colour and b/w illustrations. Wellfleet Press 1980, 1st edition, the book is overall in very good condition, it only has a small pencil inscription by the previous owner (see photo). Shorelines-Michael Warren This book is one man's vision of the birds that are found at the water's edge, not just the ducks and waders, but the whole gamut of bird life from eagles to wrens. To paint these pictures, English artist Michael Warren travelled coastlines from Caithness to Portugal and Maine to Florida, looking at the birds of freshwater, whether on remote lochs in the Scottish Highlands or on the wide expanses of the Trent Valley around his home in Nottinghamshire. A Dictionary of Birds-Bruce Campbell/Elizabeth Lack This book contains numerous articles covering the field of modern ornithology and related subjects, many of them running to several thousand words. In addition there are articles on all the bird families, almost all of which are illustrated by a representative species. There are also numerous short entries defining special terms, application of names, etc. The total gives a text of over 800,000 words, supported by more than 500 photographs, drawings and diagrams. British artist Robert Gillmor (1936-2022) has assembled a collection of over 200 drawings of birds, almost all of which were specially drawn for the Dictionary.
