The Handful who Conquered an Empire. From the moment Spaniard Hernando Cortes (1485-1547) stepped ashore the mighty Aztec Empire was doomed to destruction. Cortes landed at Tabasco in March 1519.
Baraldi paints with incredible detail and fantastic use of colour.
Although the natives were awed by the strange men and their horses, which they had never seen before, they were soon to engage the Spaniards in fierce battle.
This beautifully painted artwork by Severino Baraldi was published in the British comic Look & Learn in #849 on 22nd April 1978
