Each plate is finished with a luxurious black lacquer, complemented by the distinctive nashiji, or pear skin texture, which adds a subtle yet captivating sparkle. This luxurious finish is achieved by sprinkling fine metallic flakes, usually gold or silver, onto the wet lacquer surface before it dries. The particles are then sealed with a clear lacquer layer, which is polished to a lustrous sheen. This technique not only adds an opulent visual texture but also depth and dimension to the lacquerware. While the set bears signs of its age, with three plates showing minor edge chipping and one plate exhibiting lacquer lifting, the overall condition is remarkable given their vintage. The original wooden box, despite having cracks, chips, and signs of old woodworm, remains structurally sound and adds to the authenticity and story of the set.
