Alexandra David-Neel - My Journey to Lhasa. The Personal Story of the Only White Woman who Succeeded in Entering the - 1927

A very RARE and SCARCE book written by Alexandra David-Neel and published in 1927 by William Heinemann...."My Journey to Lhasa. The Personal Story of the Only White Woman who Succeeded in Entering the Forbidden City." Alexandrine spent several years preparing for the adventurous journey to the holy city of Lhasa. She studied thoroughly Tibetan customs and language. Disguised as a Tibetan nun she crossed the wild, unexplored parts of Tibet with her young companion Lama Yongden. After four and half months they reached Lhasa which at the time was closed to women. Book in fair to good condition. Original cloth with bright gilt, very light stains, light wear around edges and corners, spine replaced not profesionally with wear. Inside light foxing at the beginning and at the end, mostly very clean, with frontis portrait and 43 half tones mostly taken from the author's photographs. Ex library copy with only signs: numbers on ffe and front pastedown, little pocket on rear pastedown-no other signs. A few pages with light loss on lower margin- see photos as part of description.
