Ancient Egyptian Faience Bes Amulet Circa 664-332 BC - Late Period This faience amulet represents the god Bes, a squatted dwarf figure with hands resting on his hips, situated on a flat base. The figure features a large head adorned with a feather crown, and the suspension loop is incorporated through the crown. Set in a modern necklace setting. Bes, a significant deity in ancient Egyptian mythology, was a protective deity associated with home, childbirth, and family. Often depicted as a dwarf with leonine features, Bes was revered for his role in warding off evil spirits and ensuring the well-being of households. Cf. W. M. F.
