It is housed in a custom-made wooden box. The exterior of each piece features a finish of black lacquer adorned with maki-e, nashiji, and gold leaf flakes, creating a striking and opulent appearance. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese technique where designs are created using metallic powders sprinkled over lacquer. Nashiji resembles the texture of pear skin and adds a shimmering effect using gold flakes to the surfaces. The interior of the set is finished in vibrant vermilion lacquer, and the underside of each piece boasts a nashiji finish. This set includes a flask, five small plates, one tray, a shallow container for wooden sticks, and a deeper container suitable for condiments or napkins. Additionally, the set, including a four-tiered jubako (stacked food box), fits neatly inside the carry case, which is detailed with nashiji on its frame. The lacquerwork is adorned with a variety of traditional floral motifs, each symbolizing unique virtues. Peonies represent wealth and honor; camellias symbolize love and affection. Bellflowers stand for enduring love, and plum blossoms reflect perseverance. Narcissus indicates rebirth, irises convey hope, and hydrangeas embody heartfelt emotions. Lilies symbolize purity, chrysanthemums denote longevity, and maple leaves represent peace and the passing of time. Despite its beauty, this antique set shows signs of wear commensurate with its age, including minor scratches, small chips on the plates, and a crack in the carry case. The custom wooden box has scratches, chips, cracks, stains, and some rust on the metal fittings, with one metal piece detached. Please refer to the photos. Dimensions: approx.
