Very quiet scene, with some light rain. You see it get lighter on the horizon. First edition 1929 (Shōwa 4). This is a later edition , printed using the original woodblocks. Publisher : Nakajima Shyo-bisya, printed by master printer : Numabe who also prints the Yoshida prints The measurements of the image within the margin are 375 x 265 mm. The full paper size: 425 x 305 mm. Never been framed. The print is as new, just release by the publisher. In mint condition ! Kawase Hasui (川瀬 巴水1883 – 1957) was a Japanese artist. One of the most prominent print designers of the shin-hanga movement, Kawase Hasui is possibly the most renowned Japanese landscape artist of the 20th century. Kawase Hasui, a modern printmaker gave primacy to the mood of a place. Especially their persistent interest in depicting light characterizes the dreamlike atmosphere in their prints. Artists such as Kawase Hasui expressed a romantic yearning for nature, rural roots and the warm wooden architecture that was disappearing in urban Tokyo.
