Max Born - The Restless Universe (With 7 flip book style films) - 1951

Scarce Title by the German Physicist and mathematician Max Born The Restless Universe is an introduction to modern physics written by a giant in the field of quantum mechanics. Gifted with a rare ability to explain complicated scientific concepts to lay readers, Nobel laureate Max Born presents a step-by-step guide to the understanding of molecules, atoms, subatomic particles, and nuclear physics. Chemical and Engineering News praised Born's narrative as "masterfully discussed . . . easy and delightful," Item Description Nice copy of this classic introduction to physics. Authorized Translation by Winifred M. Deans, M.A. (Cantab.), B.Sc. (Aberd.). The book has 12 mono plates, and also 7 flip book style films, drawn by Dr. Otto Koenigsberger. These are in the margins of the pages and when flipped through show various processes including the motion of the Electron in the Hydrogen atom and the scattering of a-particles (a method entirely new in book production, and showing the actual course of certain phenomena [the images become animated]). Published by Dover Publications Inc, New York, 1951. Publishers’ original blue cloth boards, lettered in black on spine. Book Dimensions: 23.5 x 15.5 cm and Number of Pages: 315 + 2 pages ads. Condition Firm and well bound copy. External covers are clean and in nice shape. The book in lovely condition, and clean inside. No names or inscriptions. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. Inner hinges are very good. The text, and illustrations are clean and bright (Nice Copy) (Please see pictures). Max Born “Max Born (11 December 1882 – 5 January 1970) was a German physicist and mathematician who was instrumental in the development of quantum mechanics. He also made contributions to solid-state physics and optics and supervised the work of a number of notable physicists in the 1920s and 1930s. Born won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics for his "fundamental research in quantum mechanics, especially in the statistical interpretation of the wave function”.
