Nice oblong wooden kanban 看板 (shop sign) promotes confectionery items, prominently featuring the names ‘Kintoname’ キントンアメ and ‘Okachin’ おかちん. Kintoname refers to a delightful candy made from bean paste and chestnuts, while Okachin is a female pronunciation for the more familiar mochi 餅 (sticky rice cakes).
Both products were available at two establishments in Chiryû city 知立町, Aichi Prefecture.
The sign is crafted from Sugi (cedar) wood, which has developed a rich, dark patina over time, and is adorned with carved inscriptions and symbols highlighted in gold and red lacquer finishes.
Period: Japan – Early Shôwa period (Second quarter 20th century).

In a very good original condition with traces of wear conform age, including some pigment loss. There are also some imperfections at the top of the left back support beam. It's important to note that these items were displayed outdoors for many years and have naturally weathered over time. These signs of use affirm that the item served its intended purpose.
