2021 Graham's "The Stone Terraces" - Porto Vintage Port - 2 Flasker (0,75 l)

2 bottles of 2021 Graham's "The Stone Terraces" Vintage Port Wine - this is the 5th edition of "The Stone Terraces" series - bottles include original wooden cases, purchased directly from the producer The grapes used to make "The Stone Terraces" come from the magnificent hand-built stone terraces surrounding Quinta dos Malvedos, dating from the late 18th century and planted predominantly with the flowery, aromatic Touriga Nacional. Tasting note: "this wine is very individual; it has highly specific characteristics with a very intense tannic structure and a colour of purple-black intensity. The easterly and northerly aspect of these two small vineyards results in fresh scented aromas of violets and mint. There is a complex palate of weighty and spicy tannins combined with blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. This is an extraordinary wine of great power and elegance; it is a new departure for Graham's and the Symington family." Graham's is celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2020. The firm of W. & J. Graham & Co has its roots in a Glasgow-based textile concern. During the early nineteenth century an office of this trading company was established in Porto. In 1820 the brothers William and John Graham, who were then managing the office, accepted 27 pipes of Port wine in settlement of a bad debt. This Port was shipped to the parent company in Glasgow which initially reprimanded the brothers for not sending cash. Fortunately however, after it was sold the Port turned out to be very popular and soon William and John were being urged by their parent company to acquire and ship more of this finest fortified wine. By the late 18th century Graham's was firmly established as a prominent Port shipper. In 1882 Andrew James Symington, a young Scot whose family was well known to the Graham's, took up a position with Graham's in Oporto. Although after a few years he left the company to join another Port shipping business, the firm of W. & J. Graham was acquired by the Symington family, his descendants, in 1970.
