Fujii Kooyu, born in Tokyo in 1882 and a graduate of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, was an influential figure in Japanese art from the Meiji era through the Showa era. Before adopting his later name “浩佑”, he was known as “浩裕”, a signature found on this early piece, making it particularly valuable for collectors. The crane, revered in Japanese culture as a symbol of longevity, prosperity, and fidelity, is depicted with remarkable craftsmanship, reflecting Kooyu’s mastery in bronze work.
