These original hand-coloured lithographs are from the John E. Sowerby’s ”British Wild Flowers, Illustrated by John E. Sowerby. Described, with an introduction and a Key to the Natural Orders, by C. Pierpoint Johnson. Re-Issue: A supplement containing 180 figures of recently discovered flowering plants, by John W. Salts... and the Ferns, horsetails, and club mosses”. The work was published by John van Voorst in London, 1863. John E. Sowerby was an English botanist and illustrator, known for his contributions to botanical illustration during the 19th century.
