The Essence of Toshiko Okanoue Toshiko Okanoue Kawade Shobo Shinsha/2019/Japanese.English/135*175*15 The Essence of Toshiko Okanoue," a collection of works by Japanese female artist Yoshiko Okagami, has been reevaluated in recent years. In 2000, the solo exhibition "Yoshiko Okanoue Photo Collage - Drops of Dreams" was organized by Ryuichi Kaneko (1948-2021), one of Japan's leading historians of photography, and was Okanoue's first solo exhibition in 44 years. Since then, her first book of works was published by Nazraeli Press in the 2000s, followed by her first book of works in Japan, "Harukana Tabi" in 2015. Since then, she has received a great response from men and women of all ages in Japan, and has become a figure of the moment with exhibitions at the Museum of Art, Kochi in 2018 and the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum in 2019. Recently, a solo exhibition of Eiko Yamazawa, a pioneer female photographer, has been held, and (female) artists who have been active since the early postwar period have become the focus of renewed attention. This book, published by Kawade Shobo Shinsha, the publisher of Faraway Journey, pairs Okagami's interviews and autograph texts with his collage works to present a collection of images and words that capture the "emotional twists" and "sentiments" that Okagami has described in his past work.
