Hage ornament formet som Haniwa-stil hest - Granitt - Japan - Sen Edo-periode (første halvdel av 1800-tallet)
Remarkable and extraordinarily rare garden ornament is sculpted in the style of a Haniwa horse, complete with saddle and stirrups, and mounted on a rectangular base.
Hand-carved from grey granite with light and dark accents and a great aged patina.
We have not encountered such an unique garden ornament before.
Haniwa 埴輪, which means "clay cylinder" or "circle of clay," are significant earthenware funerary objects from ancient Japan. During the Kofun period (c. 250 to c. 600 C.E.), these figures, often nearly life-sized, adorned the tops of large burial mounds called kofun. Over centuries, haniwa evolved in shape and placement, suggesting varied ritualistic or functional uses.
Dimensions:
Height 51 cm, Width 69 cm, Depth 18 cm.
Weight 49 kg.
The age of such a stone item is difficult to determine. We think that this one dates all the way until the Late Edo period (First half 19th century). It is in a very good original condition. Needs a little bit of support to stand upright, or slight burial for stabilization. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
We will use a wooden pallet and good packing for safe transport.
When shipped we will also add a certificate of authenticity.
