Ming Dynasty Pottery Female Servant Figure Circa 14th-17th century AD This pottery figure portrays a female attendant standing on an integral two-stepped base, clad in a heavy and voluminous robe with distinctive glazing. The attendant holds an ochre-glazed kettle in her left hand, showcasing her role in domestic activities or ceremonies. The detailed facial features and elaborate hairstyle reflect the artistic sophistication of Ming Dynasty ceramics. Mingqi, "spirit objects" are small terracotta statues usually depicting court ladies, servants, dancers, and musicians - both men and women, but also horses, other domestic animals, mystical beasts and miniature architectural models of houses, farms, granaries. These items were buried together with deceased people in graves to serve them in the afterlife.
