Indusdalen Terrakotta Oksestatuett (Ingen reservasjonspris)

An Indus Valley terracotta statuette of a bull featuring a large protruding hump and long curving horns. The piece is adorned with dark stripes and dots across its body and horns with the facial features painted on with the same pigment. On the behind, there is a long tail added for detail. There is a small hole at the bottom of the statuette. There is a minor chip to the left horn. Earthly encrustations and signs of aging visible on the surface. The Indus Valley Civilisation was one of three early and widespread cradles of civilisation along with Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. At its peak, the Indus Valley Civilisation, which included such sites as Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, may have had a population of over five million, who developed new techniques in pottery, seal carving, and metallurgy. They were accustomed to creating small terracotta figurines, and of those which took the form of zoomorphic characters, the cow was one of the most popular. Measurements: Circa L 12.5 cm x H 9.9 cm Provenance: From the SM London collection, 1970s
