Okimono, Nio i Oni - Elephant ivory - Japonia - Meiji period (1868-1912)
Rare okimono depicting a fight scene between Nio the guardian god of the temple and a demon Oni. The scene represents a typical judo grip in which the god tries to pin down by reversing the rival who, in turn, slips a foot between the opponent's legs to avoid defeat.
Concentrated looks and tense muscles really make the scene more intense.
