【Product details】
We are delighted to offer a unique slice of Japanese history with " Kanda sairei dashi ichiran 神田祭礼だし一覧(The Kanda Festival at a Glance)," a masterful woodblock print by Utagawa Kunitoshi (1847-1899), crafted during the Meiji period (1869-1889). As an esteemed pupil first of the third Utagawa Toyokuni and subsequently of the second Utagawa Kunisada, Kunitoshi played a significant role in the late Meiji era's ukiyo-e tradition. This artwork is a single sheet from a triptych that vividly captures the essence of the Kanda Matsuri, a major festival centered around Kanda Myojin, showcasing a blend of the sacred and the festive that characterizes one of Tokyo's most significant events.
The print intricately details the festival's floats and parades, offering a glimpse into the variety of costumes and characters involved, from commoners to samurais and geishas. The lively scene is set against a bustling background of onlookers and street vendors, perfectly encapsulating the vibrant atmosphere of the Kanda Matsuri.
This antique piece shows signs of age, including slight wear, minor stains, tiny holes, small creases, and minor tears at the edges. Please refer to the photos for a detailed look at its condition.
