You are bidding on an amazing old 4/4 violin, labeled "Jacques Boquay Rue Dargenteuil A Paris, 1719".
Condition:
Some tears and wears to original golden brown varnish, no cracks.
Description:
Good quality medium grained spruce was chosen for the top, and the maple of the two pieces back with beautiful grain is strongly flamed. Matched sides, neck and scroll. The inlaid purfling is a tasteful work of good craftsmanship, just as the shining, golden brown reddish varnish. Good rosewood and ebony set up, new strings, new bridge, the violin is ready to play. The whole length of the violin is 582 mm and the back 353 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 163 mm; middle bouts: 109 mm; lower bouts: 204 mm. Full size, the scroll is lion form.
