The mirror features a Buddha statue in front, creating a striking halo effect. On the back of the mirror, the name of the artist, Fujiwara Mitsumasa, is engraved alongside a Nandina motif. Nandina, revered for its hardiness and medicinal qualities, symbolizes overcoming challenges and is valued for its connections to health and longevity. In ancient Japan, mirrors were considered sacred objects, reflecting light and warding off negative energies, often revered in shrines. Time has left its mark on this piece, seen in the patina that enhances its historic value. The wooden frame, once covered in gold leaf, exhibits wear.
