Very fine landscape painting "Serene life", signed - Ike no Taiga (1723-1776) - Japonia - Edo Period (1600-1868)

Ike no Taiga (1723–1776) was a Japanese painter and calligrapher born in Kyoto during the Edo period. Together with Yosa Buson, he perfected the bunjinga (or nanga) genre. The majority of his works reflected his passion for classical Chinese culture and painting techniques, though he also incorporated revolutionary and modern techniques into his otherwise very traditional paintings. As a bunjin (literati, man of letters), Ike was close to many of the prominent social and artistic circles in Kyoto, and in other parts of the country, throughout his lifetime. Yanagisawa Kien, a major social and artistic figure of the time, initiated Taiga's introduction to the world of the bunjin. Taiga studied painting and calligraphy under Kien in 1738. Some of Taiga's works have been classified National Treasures by the Japanese government. His works could be found in numerous museums worldwide, such as Kyoto National Museum, Metropoliten museum, British museum, Cleveland Museum of Art,... Roller end: bone.
