Sea turtle - type Chelonioidea - Caretta Caretta
On its original base
In very good condition for its age - Only some slight yellowing - No missing parts/ no restorations-
From a cabinet of curiosities - probably English because the subject was purchased in London a few years ago (in the only antique shop specialised in marine and sea objects on Portobello MRKT)
Considering its condition and its base I presume it dates from the early 20th century or before.
Dimensions 57 cm x 53 cm x 18 cm (without the full base)
Weight 3 kg 280
Since a number of years this species is fully protected by the WCD convention on the protection of species - here it is obvious that the taxidermy dates back to way before the ban - a certificate of conformity is attached (Picture No. 18).
In accordance with the CITES regulation - expedition out of E.U. is not allowed-
