Moedas celtas - Keltischer Münzstempel mit dazugehöriger Elektron Stater der Sequani, 3. Jahrhundert vor Christus

Extremely rare celtic coin punch from the 3rd century BC with associated electron stater coin of the Sequani (from Switzerland - France area, see photo). Material electron, gold with a high silver content. The punch is made of iron with significant signs of wear from the stamping. There are slightly conical depressions on each side from inserting a coin blank. This was then punched with a countermark. The embossed finished coin was then knocked out (see hewn edges on the edge of the stamp, clearly visible). The two-sided possibility for embossing on this punch, made possible a faster and more efficient use and production of the precious coins of that time. In the centre of the punch head there is a square recess, where there are remains of wood (petrified, hard with iron baked). Presumably there was a handle was attached, similar to a hammer, with the help of which the punch was not fixed but flexible. Very important document piece of Celtic coinage. Museum condition. Dimensions of the stamp: about 8.5 cm long and 5.5 cm wide. Stable condition. Weight: punch 1004 g The stater has an unknown example variant so far (below the car is an ibex pictured). Literature: HMZ -catalogue of the Gietl publisher vgl. page 29 / 1-16 Front side: Curly head Stater has leftovers of incrustations on the front. Reverse side: Biga, horse gallops with punctured joints and hooves, above it charioteer in front of whose bust a cross symbol draped with balls floats. Under the horse as an example ibex. On the left and right of the horse incomplete spoked wheels Weight stater: 4.32 g (material electron, gold with high silver content) Diameter stater: approx. 19-20mm According to current scientific knowledge, this coin is to be regarded as unique! According to the previous owner, the punch comes from a family estate and was acquired in 1980 in the art trade with the associated coin (assignment see photo).
