The 1973 "H1D" 5th series, after more than 70,000 units produced, marked a decisive change in the evolution of the model. Due to the restrictions imposed by U.S. pollution legislation, the engine was completely modified and the bike frame was re-designed. Among the modification carried out by the Japanese experts, there were the lengthening of the wheelbase to accommodate the engine in a less backward position, the increase in braking efficiency and the normalization of fuel consumption, through the decrease of torque. The result was a substantial improvement in the bike stability and driving safety. The fuel consumption was reduced by around 15%, but the maximum power, the speed performance and the acceleration remained almost the same as before.
