Buffon is an Italian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Juventus in Italy's Serie A He began his sporting career at Parma Football Club, which he joined at the age of 13, making his professional debut with the first team in 1995.
After staying for six seasons in the Parmesan team, he was transferred to Juventus of Turin where he won nineteen national titles (nine Serie A, Serie B, four Italian Cups and five Italian Super Cups). With the Italy national team he participated in four UEFA European Championship and five FIFA World Cups. His best result was winning the 2006 World Cup after defeating the France national team 5-3 on penalties.
In 2004 he was named in the FIFA 100, a list of players selected by Pelé on request of FIFA. He has been named the best goalkeeper in the world five times by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics. He has also won several individual titles such as the Lev Yashin Prize, the Silver Ball, the goalkeeper of the year in the Serie A, among others. He was voted the "Best Goalkeeper of World’s Quarter Century" and "World's Best Goalkeeper of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century" by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
