Netsuke, Okimono (1) - Marfim - Japão - Período Meiji (1868 - 1912)
Rare ivory okimono netsuke depicting Daikoku holding a giant forked root (the Futamata Daikon). Pointing at the root with his finger and mischievously showing it to a rat with human-like features.
This particular sculpture clearly symbolises wealth, but with a fairly clear underlying erotic meaning, with the tips of the root representing the naked and crossed legs of a woman.
There is some filler on the rat's shoulder, as indicated in red in the photos.
Japanese artefact from the Meiji period.
The Item was produced prior to 1947, and is therefore in compliance with European Union regulations on ivory trade.
