Pierre Labrouche, painter and engraver born in Baiona (Laburdi) in 1876 and deceased in 1956.
He studied in Paris, dedicating himself from a very young age to the technique of engraving. He excelled especially in colour etching. He worked with Forain for a long time, collaborating in his engraving works. In 1920 he left Paris to settle in Ziburu, where he made a good pictorial collection. He painted the port, the picturesque corners and the streets of the Laburdino village with great success. He also illustrated a good number of famous literary works and made many works with Navarrese, Andalusian and Castilian motifs. They were of a great pictorial beauty. He also reproduced works by Rembrandt, Ignacio Zuloaga and other prestigious masters, in etching, in colours... He held many exhibitions in London, Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes, Italy, Belgium, etc. He was director of Baiona’s Musée Bonnat. Source: Euskomedia)
